New Harvest of Beefsteak and Roma Tomatoes and Others Coming Soon
Last updated onThis week there were not that many harvests, but there were two new ones added to the list of already harvesting vegetables. Both beefsteak and Roma tomatoes were picked in the past couple of days. Now it seems all my tomatoes are ready and are ripening in time for an August harvest. Soon I will be picking vegetables such as eggplant, more zucchini, and even some beans.
I picked a couple of decent sized tomatoes this week and there are many more on the plants that I can’t wait to pick. Only two Roma tomatoes were picked which is best used for sauce while the large beefsteak tomatoes make the best sandwiches. My cherry tomatoes on the other hand are the perfect thing for salads.
Cucumbers are still being picked including both regular cucumber and smaller pickle type cucumbers that I planted this season. The later planted cucumber plants are almost done and the older plants are continuing to produce. They will start to slow down soon as well, but hopefully get a few more cucumbers before they are done as well.
Peppers are another plant that is continuing to produce and there were plenty that were ripe enough to cut off the plant. Although these are a different type of pepper they still have the same taste as others I have grown in the garden. For a different taste I might have to start planting spicy types of peppers instead. That is something to think about for next year.
Eggplant and beans will be the next vegetables to harvest this week. Beans are just about ready for picking while eggplants will need a little bit more time before I pick them off the plants. I would say this week for bean harvesting and a few more weeks until the first eggplant.
I also have a second batch of zucchini that I will be picking very soon as well. I planted these a little bit late, but they are growing quite well and are producing good sized zucchinis. I plan on picking them sometime this week as well.
