With spring crops ending with little left to pick it is time to move on to blueberries and other warmer weather crops. I am using a summer hybrid broccoli that is supposed to be able to withstand the warm hot summer temperatures. I plan on growing and harvesting them all season long making sure that they do not flower or go to seed. (more…)
I haven’t harvested much this season at the moment, but there are many more things that are getting ready for harvest time. Tomatoes are producing flowers, beans are climbing the ropes, lettuce is flourishing, and broccoli is next on the list. It is almost the peak of garden season and in about a month I should be harvesting the bulk of the fruits of my labor. (more…)
So Far I have only harvested a couple of fruits and vegetables this season including strawberries which I discussed in a previous post and peas which I happened to harvest this afternoon. It was only a small harvest, but it is definitely enough for at least one meal. There are plenty of peas left on the plants that suggest that many more harvests are to come. (more…)
It looks like this might be a long post since I have not written one in quite awhile and I want to keep you up to speed with my garden progress. I have not planted everything into the garden just yet, but I only have a few more seeds and transplants left. I plan on finishing this week, weather permitting of course. Just wanted to give a quick update on my garden progress so far. This week I purchased both yellow and red onions that are to be planted in totes outside. The weather has been getting somewhat warmer, but it is still too cold to start tilling the garden. (more…)
Yesterday was a good day to get started planting my tomato seeds and hopefully some others as well. I did get all my tomato seeds planted in the usual containers that I use every season. Like all the other seasons I stuck with the tomatoes that worked: cherry, Roma, and steakhouse (beefsteak). (more…)
I would say about now is pretty much the end of the season and all that I need to do is some cleanup for next year. This week I picked the only two watermelons that I planted and some last cherry tomatoes that are still growing. I also had a few peppers that were perfect for picking. (more…)
I just spent about a week inside due to the weather that gave us plenty of wind and rain. I was able to pick what needed to be harvested before the storm, but I had many things that were ready during the end of this week. Today I took the time to pick everything that was ready for harvesting. This will include pumpkins, beans, an eggplant, peppers, and some tomatoes. (more…)
So far the real cool weather has not arrived and that means that I should still see production from some of the plants that are still left. For instance my beans are producing another set of beans and I should have a larger harvest than what was displayed today. (more…)
I still have Roma tomatoes to pick, but after today I am certain that there is not that many harvests these plants have left. I would say that the best fruit from these plants are done and with the largest harvest to date I would say this is the peak or end of my tomato season. (more…)
