Seeds Sprouting with Red and Yellow Onions Planted Outside in Totes

Last updated on

Just wanted to give a quick update on my garden progress so far.  This week I purchased both yellow and red onions that are to be planted in totes outside.  The weather has been getting somewhat warmer, but it is still too cold to start tilling the garden.

Although when planting onions I don’t have to worry about tilling, but I still have to remove debris from the soil and mix up what soil was left in these containers.  Even though the weather is still cooler than normal I think my onions will do just fine for the time being.

Normally I plant yellow onions, but this season I am going to grow both yellow and red onions.  I love using red onions for salads, burgers, sandwiches, and many other meals.  Since I like eating them I might as well begin growing them.

I used two totes for red onions and six totes of yellow onions.  I might plan on adding another tote soon, but I have not decided for sure if I am going to do this.  I only planted them yesterday so I still have a little bit of time to decide if another tote is feasible.

Now let’s talk about all the sprouting that has been happening with all my indoor seeds.  My flowers were some of the first and they are growing well and should be placing them outside once some warm weather arrives.

I also have some tomatoes that are popping up and will be another month or so before bring them outside for some fresh air.  It looks like all three types of tomatoes are coming out of the soil which is definitely good news.

The last seeds I planted at the moment include peppers, eggplant, and melons have finally began to sprout.  Hopefully at least one seed will sprout from each peat pot eventually.
