Multiple Harvests That Include Cucumbers, Tomatoes, and Pole Beans
Last updated onI had plenty of harvests today and I could have had some more if I decided on picking peppers. They were not quite ready, but I will be picking them tomorrow to be used for the tomato sauce that is going to be made with all the Roma tomatoes that I was able to pick today.
I was able to pick all three types of tomatoes which include steakhouse, cherry, and super sauce Roma tomatoes. There are still many of tomatoes out there and more flowers are blooming on the plants which means I could potentially pick many more.
So let’s talk about the tomatoes that I picked this afternoon. I started off with picking my cherry tomatoes because they were ripe enough that they could fall at any moment. Many of them were bright red which is the way I like my tomatoes. If it has a slight pink to it they are just as good. 13 pounds of cherry tomatoes were picked today which is way more than yesterday and probably will be the largest harvest of these tomatoes for the season.
I then worked on my Roma tomatoes which were probably ready to pick yesterday, but decided on picking them today. Another day of full sun will not hurt them too much. I collected a total of 26 tomatoes weighing in at 16 1/2 pounds.
Lastly I picked up three steakhouse tomatoes that were ripe enough to be picked. At first I didn’t think I had any to pick, but when I looked through the plants I saw that there were three that happened to be hidden behind some leaves that I must have missed. Only three were picked and they only weighed three pounds. They were about average sized tomatoes.
This morning I was able to pick my fourth harvest of beans for the season. This has been the largest harvest so far in terms of just pole beans. Three bowls filled of pole beans and weighed 14 pounds. I am looking to beat this harvest when I pick some more of them on the fifth harvest. I am not sure I will be able to do it.
When that was done I moved on to my cucumbers which I wasn’t sure if there was going to be any that were done. The last time I checked them they were still quite small. I guess the rain this week really helped them because five of them were ready.
So far this is all I have picked today, but tomorrow I will most likely get some peppers from the garden that will then be used for tomato sauce. After that it is just a waiting game and I think corn will be coming next or even cantaloupes. We will see which is the next vegetable or fruit to become ripe.
