Steady Harvesting of All Tomato Types and Much More
Last updated onIt seems that it is about that time where harvesting becomes almost a daily venture. I would say that I have been picking all tomato types this week at least every other day. Most of my tomatoes are starting to turn and ripen along with beans and cucumbers. The large Roma and steakhouse tomatoes have finally started to bring in small harvests at the moment. Soon I will have plenty of Roma tomatoes to get some sauce going for winter storage.
In the past three days I have picked over three hundred cherry tomatoes which can take quite awhile to consume. This doesn’t include the ones that I have picked in the previous weeks. Using these for salsas is something that I can do with them.
I have been picking my steakhouse tomatoes at a good pace and they haven’t been taking too much room in the refrigerator. I have been eating them at a good pace and plan on picking more of them for my BLT sandwiches.
On the other hand my Roma tomatoes have just started ripening and it looks like I will be making some sauce out of them or even some marinara sauce. I will probably start this within a couple of days or so now that many of them are just about ready. I still have more to harvest, but for now the dozen or so are what I have picked recently.
Cucumbers were next in line for harvesting and today I got about three of them ready for consuming and enjoying. I could have picked them much sooner, but I wanted to let the limestone I gave them to soak into the soil before harvesting. Today was the perfect day to cut them from the vines.
I will soon have eggplants that are ready for harvesting within the next few weeks. I am not sure if I will be picking them in the month of August or September which is just around the corner. I will not be surprised if one of them will be picked this month. For now I am just keeping an eye on them.
For now the garden is growing quite well including melons that are appearing, pumpkins starting to ripen, peppers producing plenty of flowers, rhubarb with large leaves and stems, sunflowers starting to open, and much more.
