Today Was a Day Filled with New Harvests

Last updated on

There were two different harvests today that I was hoping to accomplish either yesterday or today.  Luckily it was a good day and I was able to harvest the first pole beans and cherry tomatoes of the season.

Both of these harvests were small due to the fact that the first harvest is never big.  Within a week or two I will eventually see the larger harvests filled with cherry tomatoes and many more beans.  For now I am going to wait until the larger harvests arrive.

My cherry tomatoes were a good size this season even though I did plant a different variety of seeds.  I decided on trying some new type of cherry tomatoes and it looks like they are working quite well.  They also taste very good as well.

Two pickle cucumbers and two straight eight cucumbers were harvested as well.  I probably didn’t have to pick the pickle ones, but decided to harvest them before they turn yellow or a pale color.  I think it is better to pick these types earlier than I would with regular cucumbers.

This was it for harvests this weekend, but there are some updates I want to let you know about.  First of all I have the first cantaloupe growing on one of my melon plants.  It is small but is getting bigger everyday.

I have been hand pollinating most of my corn and it looks like it is paying off.  Most of the stalks are starting to begin producing corn on the cob and I should be picking them sometime this month.

Peppers should be coming soon and will probably be the next vegetable that I start picking this week.  They have been growing for some time and I could have picked them today if I wanted.  I will most likely pick them and then do another or last harvest of blueberries this week as well.
