Removing Screens from Onions and Plant Progress
Last updated onJust wanted to keep you up to date on my garden especially on the plant progress that many have gone through. They have been doing quite good over the past couple of weeks now that the sun is out more and the weather is definitely getting warmer.
It is still not time to plant them in the ground, but placing them outside is what I have been doing the past couple of weeks. When the time comes they will be ready to make the transition into the ground with ease.
One thing I decided to do this week was remove the screens from my onions. They were growing quite well and most of them have sprouted by now and there is no threat of birds eating them now.
After the rain yesterday my onions and spinach plants have received a boost in growth and are looking quite well. These two plants need plenty of water and I must make sure not to let the soil dry out otherwise spinach plants could bolt and onions may dry out and die. A good layer of mulch can solve this problem easily.
I am also getting sprouting from both my melons. It took a while for my watermelons to start sprouting, but after several weeks they are now beginning to grow. Cantaloupe melons only took about a week to see them sprouting.

I will soon thin out my cantaloupe plants to just leave only one plant in each container. For now they will continue to grow and weed out the weaker ones later.
My tomatoes are also doing quite well and when May comes around they should be ready for placement into the garden. I haven’t placed them outside for hardening yet because I am waiting for a little bit warmer weather.
Alyssum, dill, and cilantro are also doing quite well in this warmer weather that has been around for the past couple of weeks.

Alyssum
There are actually two containers of alyssum here, but they have grown quite tall that it looks like just one large container. Some of them are actually starting to get small buds.
Cilantro
I noticed on my blueberry plants that the buds are starting to open. Right now they are at the beginning stages but in a month or two they should be producing flowers.
