The First Two Eggplants Harvested

I just harvested the first two eggplants of the season today.  I think this is the earliest that I have ever harvested these vegetables.  Normally I get them in early September to late August at best.  This time I was able to pick them in mid-August which means that I can enjoy them much sooner.

I also harvested many more fruits and vegetables some of which I have been picking for quite awhile.  Cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, cucumbers, and some peppers are also on the list for harvesting today. (more…)

The First of Many Peppers and Ears of Corn

Two new vegetables have been picked this past week.  These would include both peppers and corn.  Peppers I picked a few days ago while corn was just recently harvested today.

I have been continuing to pick the usual which includes zucchini, cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes.  Only a few of my steakhouse tomatoes have been harvested this year.  The good news is that the three plants that are growing them have plenty and I am just waiting for them to ripen. (more…)

Time To Remove Onions from Totes

The onions have been growing long enough and most of the stems have fallen over which is the first sign that the onions are done growing.  Once they fall over it is time to pick them and that is what I did this afternoon.

It doesn’t take that long to remove all of them, but it can take a couple of days to dry them off.  I like to leave them on a table outside and let the hot sun dry them during the daytime.  I will probably bring them inside sometime this week as long as the onions dry out. (more…)

Growing Progress of Pumpkins, Tomatoes, Cucumbers and More

Just wanted to write a short post about the progress of many of my plants that include zucchini, pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers, and even my watermelons.  I am also going to be discussing my beans that are finally starting to produce as well as eggplants starting to flower.

Today I did happen to pick up another zucchini which makes this the second zucchini to be harvested this year.  Other vegetables and fruits will be picked very soon once they begin to mature and ripen. (more…)

First Zucchini of the Season and More Lettuce Picked

So far I have been picking lettuce both Ruby glow and iceberg, but today I finally got to pick something new for the season.  The very first zucchini of 2016 was recorded this morning in my gardening journal.  It weighed three pounds and looks to be used within the next couple of days.

I also picked the most amount of leaves this morning from my iceberg lettuce patch.  My Ruby glow hybrid looks like it is going to seed very soon.  It is not surprising since these plants do not like the heat and it has been very warm for them over the past couple of weeks. (more…)

Steakhouse Tomato, Zucchini, and Ruby Glow Harvest

I am now getting some more tomatoes that are coming from most of my plants.  There are only a couple that don’t have any fruit yet, but they do have flowers which should bring some fruit very soon.

As I can see it looks like I am getting steakhouse tomatoes along with some cherry tomatoes.  I am probably getting some Roma tomatoes, but I am not quite certain which ones they are.  I would say in about a week I should know if I have any Roma tomatoes growing. (more…)

Getting Tomato Seeds Into Pots

Today is the day when I start planting all my tomato seeds indoors and placing them under lights.  So far I have planted my leafy plants such as lettuce and spinach.  I also have planted some of the more important flowers indoors and now it is time for the first fruit of the season.

This is when the season starts to get a little bit busier with many plants growing inside.  Once I plant spinach outside I can then grow some more indoors under the lights that were used on my spinach plants.  I will probably be planting some more fruits and vegetables under those lights. (more…)

Largest Tomato and Corn Harvest of 2015

The climax of the season is coming to a head and with the large harvests of corn and tomatoes I think that the season is starting to come to a close.  There is always a busy part of the season where I collect the most vegetables and fruit.  It looks like the past two weeks are the max I will get from my garden.

This not only includes corn and tomatoes which I collected this week, but with all the melons I picked around the same time, cucumbers, zucchini, and the pumpkins which I will be harvesting very soon. (more…)

First Harvest of Corn, Cantaloupe, and Some More Tomatoes

It has been very busy this week especially with all new harvests of corn and cantaloupes.  The cantaloupe was nearly by accident because I wanted to check out the connection between the melon and the vine and when I turned it over it just came right off.  Good thing the melon was pretty much ready anyways.

The other cantaloupe that I picked was coming off from the vine so I just decided on removing it since it was going to come done at any moment.  No reason to leave it on the vine like that. (more…)

Multiple Harvests That Include Cucumbers, Tomatoes, and Pole Beans

I had plenty of harvests today and I could have had some more if I decided on picking peppers.  They were not quite ready, but I will be picking them tomorrow to be used for the tomato sauce that is going to be made with all the Roma tomatoes that I was able to pick today.

I was able to pick all three types of tomatoes which include steakhouse, cherry, and super sauce Roma tomatoes.  There are still many of tomatoes out there and more flowers are blooming on the plants which means I could potentially pick many more. (more…)
