Tomatoes Beginning to Ripen
Last updated onI knew that cherry tomatoes were starting to turn red a week or two ago, but I thought the others would take much more time. I went outside to pick some cherry tomatoes that were ready and I noticed that many others including Roma and steakhouse were no longer green.
Not all of them are starting to turn but the older ones that have been around for about a month or so are now beginning to ripen. I would estimate that they are going to be ready before the end of the month. It doesn’t take long for them to turn once they start heading in that direction.
I picked cherry tomatoes today that I knew were way past ready. Luckily they didn’t fall off on there own since they were ready maybe a couple of days ago.
These are larger than normal cherry tomatoes and they have been picked from the same plant. It all has to do with the particular feeding pattern that I provide them through the season.
Here are some of the tomatoes that I was talking about earlier that are now starting to ripen. The first one is a Roma tomato that is best used for sauces because they are meatier than other types.
This is a steakhouse tomato that is pretty far along in the ripening process.
Today I picked a pepper as well that weighed only a quarter of a pound. Peppers are not normally heavy and this one was at the average weight that they can grow.
I am also getting pole bean flowers that are now producing beans which means I should be picking them from the vine very soon.
I think one of my pumpkins that is growing is starting to turn orange. There is a very light tint to the pumpkin that is not that noticeable unless you look really close. Check it out and tell me what you think.
