Multiple Harvests of Fruits and Vegetables Today
Last updated onRather than collecting just one or two types of fruits or vegetables I decided on picking everything that looked ripe. This includes zucchini, beans, cucumbers, peppers, cantaloupe, and even cherry tomatoes.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to pick some more corn yesterday, but I decided to wait until this afternoon to pick some more ears. Most of them should be ready by now or at least ripe enough to be considered for consumption.
One of the first fruits that I picked this morning were my cherry tomatoes. I only have a few plants left that are still providing me with many tomatoes along with plenty of flowers as well. They will soon be empty and that will be the end of the season for them, but I have plenty to enjoy for quite a while. Seven pounds of cherry tomatoes were collected this morning.
Once I finished up on picking cherry tomatoes I then began working on harvesting my pole beans. These vegetables actually take the longest to pick because I like to make sure that I pick beans that are done or at least very close to done as possible. The leaves can sometimes block the view of some ripe beans and looking for them can be time consuming. This time I picked just nine lbs.
The last fruit picked this morning would be one of the last cantaloupes in the garden. I have only one more on the vine which will be picked in a couple of weeks or so. I also may be getting another watermelon from one of my plants if it gets pollinated. I will have to wait and see if this happens. For now a 2 1/2 pound cantaloupe was harvested.
Cucumbers have been growing quite well and I picked up five more of them this morning. About one pound each they were the perfect size to use for making relish. I will be probably be making relish soon due to the many cucumbers that I have harvested in the last month.
The last single vegetables of the day were one zucchini and a pepper. The peppers I grew this year have been growing quite well and they are very large sizes. They do not weigh much, but they are big enough to use one for multiple salads or other meals.
I always pick zucchinis when they are large rather than picking them when they are ripe. These vegetables have also been growing quite well during this season.
Today I will probably check my corn to see if there is any more to pick. Most likely there will be plenty from my last section and second section of corn that is ripe enough to be harvest. I also have some Roma and steakhouse tomatoes to pick as well. This is what is on my list for today.
