Now that it is towards the end of the summer season it is time to start harvesting and making meals out of my fruits and vegetables. Tomorrow my Roma tomatoes will be made into sauce while my larger steakhouse ones will be sliced up and placed into sandwiches. (more…)
I have just started harvesting a few Romas here and there, but no significantly large harvest just yet. I think within the next couple of weeks I should begin picking many of them at one time and get started on making some delicious sauces out of them. (more…)
Cherry tomatoes came first and now both of my Roma and steakhouse tomatoes are now on their way to a ripening pinkish red color. There are only a few of them changing colors, but soon the rest will follow. With plenty of sunshine they will turn much faster and will be harvested earlier. (more…)
It looks like I will be harvesting some fruits and vegetables soon in addition to the ones that I have already been picking. So far blueberries, lettuce, and peas have been harvested and most of my Spring crop is all but finished. I have picked a third harvest of blueberries and still more bushes need to be picked. (more…)
I was hoping to get as many plants into the garden as possible today, because there is going to be some rain coming very soon. I find it is best to get them into the garden quickly so they can adjust quickly to the soil and get some free rain with it as well. (more…)
It is that time of the year where the harvests are getting smaller and smaller and cleanup of most of the garden will commence. I still have a few melons, tomatoes, and eggplants still growing, but for the most part they will not be that big of a harvest.
The good news is that now we are going into the fall where my broccoli, cabbage, and kale can thrive in the cool weather. I will be soon starting to pick harvests from them. I will give them another month before I actually start thinking about harvesting them. (more…)
It looks like most of my garden plants are winding down and no longer producing any more flowers or fruits. My tomatoes are probably the last plants that are still growing fruit and I think I have just a few more harvests from them.
My bean plants are pretty much done for the season and today I just picked the last large harvest of pole beans. It wasn’t as big as past years, but it is definitely a good amount to store over the winter. (more…)
This year I decided on trying something somewhat new that I haven’t grown before. This season I wanted to try out honeydew melons along with watermelon and cantaloupes. I have been growing cantaloupes and watermelons every year, but this year I wanted to add a different melon into the mix.
I picked my honeydew melon a few days ago and left it in the fridge because I do not like eating warm fruit. I would say that it only takes about a day for the fruit to become cold enough to eat. Today I decided on finally cutting the melon and see what is inside. (more…)
I was looking forward to picking the first melon of the year and I thought that it was going to be one of my cantaloupes. I was hoping that my honeydew would be ready by this week, but instead one of my cantaloupes had disconnected from the plant meaning that it is ready for harvesting.
I also picked some more steakhouse, Roma, and cherry tomatoes. I did not pick as many cherry tomatoes as my previous harvests, but at least I got a few Romas to make up for it. (more…)
I collected quite a bit of tomatoes today including Roma tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. I wasn’t sure if I was going to pick enough to make tomato sauce, but in the end I ended up picking plenty for this. I also picked over 100 cherry tomatoes again and I am looking forward to eating them.
I also picked a few more cucumbers, beans, zucchini, and more peppers today. I am hoping to soon pick my first honeydew melon sometime this month. (more…)
