Zucchini and Some Tomato Flowers Pollinated
Last updated onThis morning there was a quick rain storm that came through and gave my plants just a good soaking that they definitely needed. If there was no rain I would have watered them myself regardless. I happened to check up on the zucchini that I thought might have been pollinated and wanted to see its progress.
Good news! The zucchini is getting larger which means that it was pollinated when the flower first opened a couple of days ago. Now I can look forward to watching this vegetable grow until it reaches the appropriate size that I want. Feeding is what will keep these plants growing for as long as possible producing delicious food.I thought it might be a good idea to get some pictures of this zucchini so that you can watch it grow within the next few days. Once they are pollinated they will increase in size everyday as long as there is good weather which doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment.
I have many more that are on the way as well, but this is the one from yesterday which I will use to track its progress. Here are some more that are producing the females that need to get pollinated in the very near future.
In this plant there are many females that can potentially be picked in a couple of weeks if the bees do there thing. There are about four or five small females in just this single plant!
Just another one that is producing what will later be part of the harvest hopefully.
Here is a comparison of how large the zucchini leaves are compared to the size of my hand.
Zucchinis are not the only ones that are starting to produce fruit my tomatoes are also beginning to produce fruit. At the moment it is mainly the cherry ones that are showing much progress. All the others were planted later, but are producing flowers which is a great sign. Soon they will have fruit as well and I will be harvesting tomatoes from all my plants.
In this photo you can see about four tomato flowers that were successfully self pollinated and are now producing fruit. This is how small all tomatoes start and later they take the shape of what type they are. That won’t happen for another few days or so. Since these are cherry tomatoes they will be the first to harvest because they don’t take as long to grow.
The ones below might possibly be roma tomatoes because you can see that they are not perfectly round like the cherry tomatoes were. I probably should have labeled them, but I tend to just plant all tomatoes together without knowing what type they are. I will have to keep an eye on these to see if they get larger or not.
I will keep you up to date with the progress with all my vegetables and fruit in the coming weeks and months.
