Removing Cucumbers and Beans From the Vines
Last updated onToday was a hot day with many things to do. I had some zucchini that needed to be picked along with other vegetables that were big enough to pick. I am mainly waiting on my tomatoes, but I will save that for later.
My beans had been doing quite well and I thought that some of them needed to be harvested right away. If they went too long they would just make good pods for saving seeds. This wouldn’t be so bad since that is what I did last season.
I picked four zucchinis this morning before picking my cucumber or beans. They needed to be picked before the skin of the vegetable begins to get too tough and very distasteful when cooked. So far the zucchini I have been eating has had a great tasted and I have enjoyed all of them so far.
I also picked only one cucumber, but since it is early I am sure that I will get plenty more. I have seen plenty of other cucumbers that are still growing on the vines and I can’t wait to pick them in about a week or so.
Check out all the other cucumbers that look almost ready, but not quite.
Beans were also on the menu for picking today as well. I wasn’t sure how much I would get, but I did know that it probably wouldn’t be that much. I kept seeing beans while watering that were not getting bigger and that is why I decided on picking them today.
I only got about two pounds of beans today. I plan on picking more in about a week because my plants are continuing to produce flowers which means more beans.
I also want to give you an update on one of my melons. I think finally I have the first watermelon of the season beginning to grow. I have only one that I know of and probably a few more once they get pollinated. Check out the first one that I have as of this writing.
I am also getting more flowers on my eggplants and soon I should be seeing some fruit coming from them. Hopefully I will get some eggplants by August.
