Soon To Be Harvests of Many Vegetables From the Garden

Last updated on

For the past couple of weeks I have been picking blueberries until the season is over for them. At the moment there are still plenty of berries left even though I have picked over ten pounds of them from this year’s harvests. Soon there will be harvests from my corn, zucchini, tomatoes, and possibly pumpkins and melons.

I have had three harvests from my blueberries and the last one I think I have reached the pinnacle of the blueberry season. With a little bit over six pounds I can start freezing them and saving some of them for the winter months.

Six Pounds of Blueberries

I am not worried because there are still a good amount of them on the bushes which I will have to pick sometime this week. If I continue picking them I might actually be able to squeeze out twenty pounds of berries this season.

My onions have also started to fall over which means it is time to get them out of the soil and onto a table to dry them off. Once this is done then I can start using them right away. Storage is simple and you can begin putting them in dishes as soon as possible. I also planted red onions so I am looking forward to seeing how they came out and what they taste like.

The past two weeks I have also been pollinating my corn now that the silks have been showing up on most of the stalks. I would say every corn stalk in the garden is producing silks which mean corn harvesting in the near future.

Corn Ready for Harvesting Soon

I noticed this week that one of my pumpkin vines has an actual pumpkin growing from it. I didn’t think that it was pollinated, but once I noticed that it got bigger from yesterday then it is a good bet that it will continue growing hopefully.

The very next vegetable for harvesting is going to be my zucchini. I have about four or so plants that are producing female flowers which lead to zucchini vegetables. Only one plant is close to picking, but I am sure that the others will not be very far behind. I like to pick them large so I can steam them and stuff them for a good meal.

One of my watermelon plants is also producing a fruit which might have been pollinated or not. Time will tell whether this is going to be a melon that I pick or not.

Tomatoes are another fruit that is going to be ready very soon. All they need is some good amount of sun in order to ripen. If any of them are going to be ready this month it is going to be the cherry tomatoes. The Roma and steakhouse will take a little bit more time for turning colors.
