The Last Summer Harvests of 2016
Last updated onIt is that time of the year where the harvests are getting smaller and smaller and cleanup of most of the garden will commence. I still have a few melons, tomatoes, and eggplants still growing, but for the most part they will not be that big of a harvest.
The good news is that now we are going into the fall where my broccoli, cabbage, and kale can thrive in the cool weather. I will be soon starting to pick harvests from them. I will give them another month before I actually start thinking about harvesting them.
The past few weeks I have been mostly harvesting steakhouse tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and Roma tomatoes. My cherry ones have been slowly getting smaller while my Roma’s and steakhouse tomatoes have been continuing to grow.
Although my steakhouse and Roma tomatoes have been growing they too are starting to get smaller harvests. Luckily they don’t go as fast as my cherry tomatoes so I can enjoy them for a few weeks before I run out of these fruits.
Here are just some of the last harvests that I have been getting from the garden.
Below you can see that one of my cantaloupe melons got merged into one fruit. They both shared the same stem on the same exact vine, so I would say that these were twins of the plant world. It would be interesting to see what they look like inside once I cut them open
My corn, beans, cucumbers, and zucchini are pretty much done for the season. I have been taking down my beans this past week and have left only a few which will be removed very soon.
The only fruits and vegetables that I have to pick from the summer would be my watermelons and carrots. Carrots are always picked in November close to thanksgiving and my watermelons take some time before it is time to pick them. I hope to be picking them very soon.
