Those Ears of Corn are Now Ripe Enough for Harvesting
Last updated onThat is correct most of my corn is now ready to be picked while others still need just a little bit more time. Today was actually the start of harvests from corn, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Now that most of my blueberries have been picked it is now time to focus on other fruits and vegetables that may be ready for harvesting.
Let’s first start with the corn I harvested yesterday and enjoyed them for an after dinner snack. I picked thirty pounds of corn and 36 ears from my corn stalks. This is just the very first harvest for them and there are still plenty of more growing for another harvest.
Once I picked my corn there were some cucumbers that I had seen growing near a couple of my plants and they too were ripe enough for picking. They were a decent size and weighed one and a half between the two of them. My vines have many more small cucumbers that I hope to grow into large vegetables for different meals.
I also had a couple of tomato plants that had ripened both Roma and cherry tomatoes. There are no steakhouse tomatoes yet, but there are some that are starting to turn colors. One Roma tomato weighed one and a half pounds and three cherry tomatoes were collected from just one of my plants in the garden.
I also wanted to give a small update on some of my other fruits and vegetables are doing. For instance I now have three pumpkins growing from three of my pumpkin vines. A couple of them have just started growing while one of them has been growing for quite some time.
I also have a few melons growing on my vines. One of them is a crimson sweet watermelon which is more round than oval. It has been growing for about a month or so and keeps getting bigger.
Peppers are now starting to appear on my plants. One of them is actually ready to be picked, but I was going to give it one more day or so in the sunlight.
Eggplants are producing flowers, but I am not certain if one of them has been pollinated just yet. It will take a short amount of time before I will know for certain if an eggplant is going to grow or not
